Fixed Empire Strikes Back crashing bug in the millenium falcon sequence
(hopefully this will fix some other games too)
Removed all self-modifying code in ZSNES. This will make ZSNES crash
a lot less on certain systems, especially during mode 7 sequences. Thanks
Ivar!
Implemented S-RTC chip, using the system clock as the actual time (The
game will make you set the time though, but it will just be replaced with
the system time in-game). Thanks to John Weidman and Dark Force for
the info on this chip!
Fixed crashing bug in certain mosaic scenes (eg. FF3 Phantom Forest) in
the new graphics engine
Fixed a nasty crashing/corruption bug in the new graphics engine (both 8bit
and 16bit)

Fixed mysterious sprite disappearing bug in the new graphics engine
[zsKnight]
Reduced noise in ToP opening theme. It works fine in the DOS port, but

Changed the graphic modes for 19xx, now it's more "pixel perfect".
A final comment, due to many questions I've received. The best sounding mode is
Interpolated 22050 Hz (not 44100 Hz), this is due to the fact that the code is
optimized for that mode and using higher frequencies result in a loss of sound quality.

RAINE v0.31: "New foundations" - DOS/Linux/Windows
==================================================
What's New?
===========
This release adds mostly new graphic functions to allow almost every
driver to support 16bpp/rotation. It was done mainly to see if f3
games would benefit from it. Apparently : not that much, except maybe
for popnpop ?
Anyway with this, and automatic rom loading, adding new drivers should
be easier now.
Since it's quiet now, and we have also included many fixes and
improvements, time was good to make a release.
New games:
----------
- Added donpachi, hot dog storm (cave)
- Added 3wonders (preliminary work)
- Taito F3 drivers:
- Finally fixed the bad looping sounds (especially in puzzle buble 3 & 4)
- Cave driver:
- Added linescrolling to uopoko, and zooming effects to most games.
Overall improvements:
---------------------
- Added 16bpp support and rotation to 90% of the games.
- Added bpp selection to the gui (you can now change the bpp without
quiting raine...)
- Added continuous playing (see below)
- Changed the game selection dialog : options can be chosen with the
new button "Selection", and added selection by company.
- Fixed Battle Shark : it works again !
- Fixed music rate in toaplan2 games (batrider...), thanks to a patch
on the net. See http://www.emucamp.com/boukichi
- Fixed sample rate not being saved in 0.30a.
- Fixed bad samples in wrestlefest
- Some assembler optimisations on the basic drawing functions (from Karma)
- Fixed light bringer (broken in 0.30a).
Changes for linux :
- New fbcon driver for linux (frame buffer console)
- svga, fbcon and dga drivers are now generating their list of
supported modes on the fly.
Continuous playing :
--------------------
This option allows you to automatically save a game when you quit, and
automatically load it when you load the rom. It allows to keep high
scores for any game without the hiscore.dat file, can be used as an
emergency save function !
Enable it by running raine with the "-cont" option.
Disable it with the "-nocont" option.
You can also edit the raine configuration file. In this case, change
"auto_save" option in [General] options.
Of course, it eats lots of disk space, so it is off by default.

New Kind of Static Recompiler, quite unoptimised, so its full capacity isn't
showed yet. Anyway, speed increase is noticeable, very noticeable in certain
games (see GUNDAM BATTLE ASSAULT, BUBBLE BOBBLE, SEXY PARODIUS,
and others).
Some HLE rutines for BIOS, mostly for MEMORY CARD SUPPORT (!)
Memory Card support. It is not full yet, and work only for a few games, but as
it is done through HLE... it doesn't work like an standart Memory Card. As it
saves each savefile separately, and not in PSX format, because of HLE, it is
possible to have a MEMORY CARD with an infinite blocks capacity (depending
on you HD, of course).
ISO Image Files support, so now you can boot games from BIN, ISO and NRG
files.
ISO Building, this means... you can use the AdriPSX for building your ISO files
without using other software. It has shown problems with some CDROM
readers, but it worked all time fine with my CREATIVE CDR and my old BTC
CDROM READER.
SaveStates support. It is a tool I deviced some months ago, but only for
developements purposes. So, it doesn't support "plugins"... this means, GFXs
and sounds are not saved in savestate file. Of course, this will be fixed more
our very next release ;)
Lots of fixes on bugs from previous releases.

13:45EST - ElectrEm Beta 8a for DOS, Windows, Linux, & Source Released
ElectrEm Beta 8a for DOS, Windows, Linux, & Source, an Acorn Electron emulator has been released. This release includes the following features, enhancements, and bugfixes:
fixed the ability to select print output to files in the GUI, and also fixed some small print issues - namely the font size used in
RTF files (it was too large) and the interpretation of carriage returns (they were treated as linefeeds, whereas apparently
they should produce no vertical paper motion) in RTF and interpreted ASCII modes
corrected some stupid default key assignment mistakes in the default DOS key maps
made a first guess at emulating the genuinely undocumented free palette changes of Joe Blade 1/2, Subway Vigilante,
Shanghai Warriors, Southern Belle & Evening Star, having finally spotted the common link that ties these disparate
programs together. A fix of tape interrupts later, and they all work quite well. Although some other stuff may do slightly
odder things than previously.
added 'adm' as an accepted variant on 'adf', which it apparently is

21:42EST - AIAB v.r10 for Win 9X Released
AIAB v.r10 for Win 9X, a Commodore Amiga emulator has been released. This release includes the following features, enhancements, and bugfixes:
AIAB Release Notes (version r10) 31/03/01
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~
Note that AIABr9 never actually existed. I reckon this release is pretty much as good as its
even going to get (without exceeding a 4mb download), so bumped up the version number twice ;)
Heres a great list of everything thats new in this release, starting with the coolest:
ADDED: [drum role] GlowIcons 'support'! Whahey, thats right folks, you can now choose the
~~~~~ look of the icons used by AIAB, and swap between the two easily! Aside from choosing
which iconset to use when AIAB is first run, its also possible to change the iconset
at any time, by using the entry in Settings-->Presets in the AIAB Start-Menu - cool,
huh? Big thanks go out to Pzyco and Sanny who painted these superb looking GlowIcons.
Check out http://mitglied.tripod.de/IconDesigner/ for more of the same!
NB: The script that switched between the two iconsets isnt very clever just yet.
~~ It will not perform any checks or do anything clever - it just overwrites the
icons that AIAB uses, *thats all*. Back-up your stuff if you're really afraid!
UPDATE: Now, if any of the *supported* "AIAB Application" upgrades are installed,
~~~~~~ (e.g. Music/Internet) the script will update these icons too - whahey!
ADDED: Several mouse-pointer presets to the 'SYS:Prefs/Presets/' folder, and added an entry
~~~~~ to the AIAB Start-Menu to open the 'Pointers' folder with a single click! To change
the look of the mouse-pointer (and save it), just double-click the relevant icon.
NB: Erm...I've kind of had to include the 'Pointer' preferences tool (from Amiga
~~ INC.) to achieve this. Does this count as piracy? I dunno, but least I'm
'big enough' to point out that Im using the program, rather than just slipping
it in, unannounced.
Oh, and I've also changed the look of the default AIAB pointer - hope you like it!
UPDATED: InstallerNG. It would seem that after a stagnant period, Jens Trger has resumed
~~~~~~~ this adventurous project, and as ever the stability of this program continues to
improve. This version is still a 1.5 pre-release, but is dated 20/2/01.
UPDATED: The MuiMaster.library, to a supposedly faster '020 optimised' version, by RedSkull
~~~~~~~ of DC. It didnt feel much faster for me (it certainly wasnt any slower), but that
might be because Im so used to the speed of JIT ;) Either way it gets included here.
DITCHED: The '2000' from the title. This was 'sooooo Millenium', and I thought '2001' just
~~~~~~~ sounded even cheesier.
UPDATED: The Scalos/Workbench popupmenus a bit. The useless 'Quit' option has been replaced
~~~~~~~ by 'Shut Down', which displays a requestor asking whether or not the user wishes to
'Shut Down' or 'Reboot' - just like the one in the AIAB Start-Menu.
MOVED: The folder containing background images to 'SYS:Prefs/Patterns' which is a more
~~~~~ standardised path (rather than my 'ColourfullBackgrounds' folder in 'Prefs/Presets').
MOVED: All the cheap'n'nasty setup scripts executed when AIAB is loaded for the first time
~~~~~ to S:AIAB-Setup - mainly, 'cos its tidier ;)
ADDED: WarpJPEG datatype, by old Amiga stalwart, Oliver Roberts (also of F1GPed fame...).
~~~~~ replacing the older akJFIF one (see below ). Big thanks to Oliver for letting me use
his software here. For those interested, WarpPNG and (soon) WarpBMP datatypes are
also available, so if you wish to add more fileformats to Multiview, give them a try.
REMOVED: The very old JPEG datatype. I was a bit sick of the akJFIF one, sure its nicely
~~~~~~~ coded, and quite fast, but wasnt free (hence I was using an old version without a
nag requestor) - why pay for something as basic as displaying a JPEG?
UPDATED: Information in the 'AmigaForever-readme.txt' file, regarding getting AIAB to work
~~~~~~~ with an AmigaForever setup. Thanks to Gordon Bland, let me know if this works!
UPDATED: DirectoryOpus 4.15. Numerous tweaks and bugfixes since the last release. Take a
~~~~~~~ look at the History.txt file in the 'DOPUS' folder. Bugs/Requests text also added.
ADDED: A few bits of text here and there for advanced users, regarding the finer points of
~~~~~ the AIAB setup - do a search for *.txt etc. if you're up for it ;)
ADDED: A basic 'Game Runner' button for playing incompatible HD-Games from Workbench. To
~~~~~ use, just select the 'Game Runner' entry from the AIAB StartMenu--->Mixed Tools.
A 'Drop Game Here' button will appear at the top of the screen, and should degrade
the Amiga (using JST) whenever game icons are dropped onto it. Im not promising a
100% success rate, but it could make all the difference!
NB: Dont forget the 'Crap Boot' option that allows you boot into a *highly* cut-down
~~ AIAB Workbench setup, ideal for playing older HD-installed games from. To use,
just hold down the left mouse-button when booting the 'Amiga' (it might take a
few goes if you have a really fast PC...).
ADDED: Picasso96.guide. Apologies to the Picasso96 team for not including this in previous
~~~~~ releases. I'd like to point out that Picasso96 is in fact shareware, and acts as an
integral part of the AIAB package. You should therefore consider registering the
software to encourage future Amiga development if you use Picasso96 modes regularly.
TWEAKED: The s:Startup-Sequence yet again to add a one second pause (to test for the LMB),
~~~~~~~ and hence use the 'Crap Boot' option) that can be commented out if you dont want to
wait. I also added support for a possible (!) 'AIAB-JIT' pack at a later date, for
nice things like Birdie etc.
TWEAKED: The Workbench titlebar text. AIAB now uses a Scalos plugin to print the contents of
~~~~~~~ 'ENVARC:AIAB-Version', which should make changing the titlebar text easier (?)
TWEAKED: The AIAB installation to add some text at the beginning so that people who havent
~~~~~~~ read the docs/installation guide [sigh...] will have a clue about what to do ;)
ADDED: FreeWheel, by Alastair M. Robinson. This cute little programme ought to allow the
~~~~~ 'wheel' on most mice to function in AIAB. You will be asked when you first install
AIAB if you wish to enable this function. Also, you might want to configure the
programme for your own needs (I dont own a wheelmouse!), to do this just use the
'ctrl alt f' hotkey, or select 'FreeWheel' from the 'Commodities' entry of the AIAB
Start-Menu. Thanks to Stephen Cooke for suggesting this addition.
TWEAKED: The s:ScreenTabCommodities list to remove any defunct entries. This file is used
~~~~~~~ to display the little images in the 'Commodities' entry of the AIAB Start-Menu.
TWEAKED: The DirectoryOpus config file to add a workaround for the 'Cant delete empty folders
~~~~~~~ problem in WinUAE'. Click the 'DELETE' button with the *right* mouse button to use
it. Also, the 'Arc Ext.' and 'ShowFile' buttons now wait for the mouse button to be
clicked before closing the Shell, thus giving the user 'more time on the ball' ;)
Thanks to Tomasz Schmidt for pointing this out.
NB: The 'Delete UAE' button *should* be redundant, thanks to the new filesystem
~~ code introduced in (around) WinUAE 0.8.13+, but I've kept it in, just in case ;)
I also noticed that DOPUS uses its own palette, rather than just using the Workbench
pens, so have tweaked this to look more like the current Workbench colour-scheme.
REMOVED: 'PatchControl' in C: directory, and reference in Startup-Sequence. I cant remember
~~~~~~~ what exactly this command did - possibly to help the OS out when 20 or so patches
are all running at the same time - but Im pretty sure we dont need it anymore.
REMOVED: Some more MUI classes, which are only used by internet applications. These files
~~~~~~~ have been moved into the 'new imporved' AIAB-Internet.zip package.
Gone: MUI:libs/mui/bookmarks.mcc
MUI:libs/mui/textinput.mcc
MUI:libs/mui/textinput.mcp
MUI:libs/mui/textinputscroll.mcc
During my updating, I also found and copied over a slightly newer 'ListTree' class.
ADDED: Replacement gadget classes by Stephan Rupprecht (adapted from the AROS versions by
~~~~~ Georg Steger). These classes differ from the original Amiga ones, in that they can
utilise the greater number of colours on Hi/Truecolour screens. Try the palette
selector in any MUI-based programme and you'll see what I mean.
CLASSES:gadgets/colourwheel.gadget (version 44.7 )
CLASSES:gadgets/gradientslider.gadget (version 44.6 )
Thanks to Stephan for letting me use these files (and Georg for the initial work)
NB: These new classes are more or less the same ones found in OS3.9, Cor.....!
~~
UPDATED: The Welcome! text, to point out that PPaint can be downloaded from Aminet, in case
~~~~~~~ anyone didn't already know.....(the topic cropped up in the mailing list). Whilst I
was editing, I also added some information about the 'GameRunner' button, and a page
of text about using the provided presets in order to change the look of AIAB.
Moreover, the 'Speed Testing' page contains some updated information.
TWEAKED: The title text shown in Workbench root windows, using Scalos. Should be more
~~~~~~~ relevant to UAE harddrives/hardfolders now (eg. does not show 'xx MB in use').
TWEAKED: Received an improved AIAB.ico from Guy Hancock which should look better on dark
~~~~~~~ desktops. The two AIAB icons I made have been deleted, because they were, well...
shit - they weren't even proper icons, hence their lack of transparency in Win2k.
ADDED: A workaround to allow Iconizer to change NewIcons. Scalos doesnt use the NI patch,
~~~~~ meaning Iconizer did not show them correctly. Anyway, I've added a little 'remedy
script to the AIAB Start-Menu until I find a better solution.
ADDED: MrFujis-PIII700mhz SysSpeed module. I made this whilst visiting my mate Daymo down
~~~~~ in Southend, on an overclocked 849mhz system, so its definately genuine. Although
its unlikely for the time-being, if your machine is significantly faster, make a
module, and email it to me!
TWEAKED: The MCP.config, turning off the 'BorderBlank' patch. This basically puts a black
~~~~~~~ border around the ECS screens rather than the colour 0, however since were using P96
we dont need such a patch enabled! This was bought to my attention by a small bench
-mark programme (called 'WhichAmiga' now in C:) which measured my setup at 14mhz with
the 'BorderBlank' patch switched on, but 18mhz with it swithced off - strange, huh?
UPDATE: The MCP.config has also had a few extra tweaks that may/may not speed up the
~~~~~~ system. Things like QuickDraw/Layers patches being disabled (apparently,
under Picasso96 they are not required), and a few 68040 CPU specific things
switched on, for future UAE JIT releases.
TWEAKED: The 'Presets' folder structure, adding a '!GUIPresets' folder, and moving everything
~~~~~~~ related to VisualPrefs in there. I've also added a BeOS-style colourscheme by Paul
O'Brein. Dont forget to send me your own VP settings if you've changed them.
TWEAKED: Default GUI settings. VisualPrefs now allows bold/italic text to be used for window
~~~~~~~ titles, which looks quite good and is therefore enabled. I've also changed the look
of cyclemenus so that they appear more like the standard popupmenus.
Moreover a tiny patch called 'TitleShadow' has been added, which adds a nice shadow
to the window-title text (if you dont like it, just comment it out in aiab-startup)
The author, Peter Gordon, claims this is quite a 'kludge' but I think it works well
enough to include in AIAB ;) Either way, I've asked Massimo Tantignone if it can be
added to a future VisualPrefs release ;)
For added consistency, the titles of the context-sensitive popupmenus have also been
given the shadowed treatment - AIAB is just getting *too* professional now! ;)
Still on the GUI front, theres a new 'Watery' background pattern, which I found on
the net. It was a bit bright to start with, so I did some tweaking in PaintShopPro -
graphicians might want to change the colour balances a little more if they find its
not quite to their liking ;) If anyone has similar styled tilable patterns, or knows
a good website where they can be found, would they please email me? ;)
UPDATE: I've just found http://www.grsites.com/textures/ which has loads on offer!
~~~~~~
TWEAKED: The default MUI GUI settings a bit, using a new, slightly larger font. This is also
~~~~~~~ better for foreign users, as the extra characters are displayed correctly.
NB: Changes will only be visible if a registered MUI.key is copied to the S: folder.
~~
REDONE: The font system completely. Some fonts have been deleted, others replaced, but all
~~~~~~ renamed to create a new family called 'AIAB fonts'. To further improve the visual
quality, some fonts have been touched-up by hand (!) Heres a full run-down of where
they're used:
AIAB-Icon - Workbench icon text
AIAB-MUI - MUI GUIs (new - see above)
AIAB-Screen - Workbench screen and WWW browser
AIAB-ScreenBold - Workbench titles
AIAB-System - Fixed-font (shell, text editor etc.)

Extra Info:
~~~~~~~~~~
1. As with the initial release, this requires a Workbench 3.x ADF in order for certain
non-distributable files to be made available - so please, dont click "Cancel" on the
requestor when prompted!
Its always best to use the most recent Kickstart ROM and Workbench ADF (eg: v3.1),
with AIAB, but if you only have the old v3.0 files dont worry; other than a slight
glitch with the arrow-gadgets in Multiview, (due to a bug with OS3.0), there are no
noticable differences.
For information regarding how, when, and where to insert the Workbench ADF, Please
check the readme in this archive, or www.emuunlim.com/aiab/installing/index.html
2. The 'AmigaInABox' package should only be available from the official AIAB website
at http://www.emuunlim.com/aiab. I take a very dim view of people selling AIAB CD's
without asking me, especially when the package is intended to be non-profit making
and available for free.
3. Inclusion of the commercial version of Directory Opus 4 in this archive is provided
under explicit licence from GPSoftware. See http://www.gpsoft.com.au/ for details.
Electron print output is sent directly to the PC printer - in Windows this means whichever you have set as your default
printer, in DOS it means the 'prn:' device (remember that?), and in UNIX /dev/lp0 (explicitly the first parallel port) is
used. Because I'm not really sure about /dev/printer yet. This option is likely to produce garbled rubbish if your Electron
software is not correctly configured for your PC printer.
Joystick support : both Plus 1 analogue and First Byte digital interfaces (although the First Byte interface gets out of the way
when the disc drive is in use due to a memory io address clash - but is still available at a second address)
added an automatic load facility which functions via an extra ROM, and works moderately well but doesn't kick in with 'load ='
config file entries at this time.
fixed timing of Mode 3, now that I'm sure of how it works with respect to non-pixel lines
a first attempt at a menu for configuring the keyboard map has been implemented, and as a result of the new found keyboard
flexibility, those .kyb files ElectrEm uses are no longer platform independant. This is a terribly important step along the road to
full portability for ElectrEm.
to match with the new "no assumptions" keyboard mode, the new default is for ElectrEm to enter the GUI when run so that a
suitable keyboard map can be created (you can disable this activity using a tick box on the first screen you see)
some RAM allocation - espcially with respect to the GUI - bugs have been cleared up and that
Will the real beta 5 please stand up? I had a temporary beta 5 online to fix the Casio problem. This does even better.
PSPC and Casio: These devices weren't erasing the background properly and were getting a double image or not displaying at all.
Beta 4
E-125 display was drawing behind the background. This may fix it. Also, PSPC users couldn't install. I made a couple changes, give this one a try.
Beta 3
The install wouldn't let you change the install path and this caused problems on HPCs. This installer attempts to fix it. You should also be able to install to a storage card now.
06:15EST - Lack of updates on Monday & Tuesday
Sorry abouit the lack of updates the past couple of days. When I came back from my business trip last week my hard drive was making a clicking sound much like the turn signal
in a car (hehehe, I guess you can tell what what means). I managed to backup all the data off of the drive on Monday & Tuesday but it took both days to get it done.
Anyway, because of this I've been able to updates only when I got home from work. Now that a temporary drive is in place
(Put a 12 Gb laptop drive into a desktop, hehehe) I'm ready to continue with a normal update routine.
