23:04EST - SNES9X v.1.38 for Win 9X Released
SNES9X v.1.38 for Win 9X, a Nintendo SNES emulator has been released. This release includes the following features, enhancements, and bugfixes:
Added support for Star Ocean and Street Fighter 2 Alpha
decompressed graphics packs from dejap. Used a binary chop
search rather than a linear search to locate correct decompressed
graphics more quickly - should help emulation speed during later
stages of the game.
Included OpenGL support into the Linux port and speeded up the
Windows OpenGL implementation slightly. The real speed up would
occur if I could figure out how/if 16-bit textures are supported in
OpenGL because at the moment the 16-bit software rendered
SNES image must be converted to 24-bit before being uploaded as
a texture...
Included the latest ZSNES DSP-1 code. Now Pilotwings, SD Racer
and Suzuka 8 Hours are playable. Aim For The Ace, Super Air
Diver 1 & 2 and Syutoko Battle 94 are also playable, but with bugs.
Thanks to zsKnight, _demo_, et al for all their hard work.
Another Daffy Duck: Marvin Missions screen flicker problem
worked around - writing to the IRQ enable register shouldn't clear
any pending IRQs, but Sieken 3 seems to require this or else the
game hangs. Special-cased Daffy Duck for now.
An NMI emulation bug was triggering a Panic Bomberman World
game bug, crashing it. Basically, if a game enables NMIs after the
normal trigger point, the NMI should not trigger if the game has
already read the NMI clear register.
Panic Bomberman World requires SPC700 memory to be initialised
to zero on reset otherwise the game hangs when a tune finishes and
another one should start.
Added mouse pointer auto-hide to the Windows port. Much better
than the turn the mouse pointer into a black dot method I was using
before. - Included the latest ZSNES Super FX code. Not sure if it
fixes actually fixes any games.
Added an offset hack for Strike Gunner to get the scrolling ground
layer to line up correctly - another offset-per-tile bug hacked around
for now.
Arrr! Left in some debugging code in the last release that prevented
all games that need the slower SPC700 timing from working.
Removed it.
Hmm. The broken cut-scenes in Deep Space 9 seem to indicate that
I haven't got the emulated clock speed of the 65c816 CPU correct
yet. And not by a little bit - a 9% too slow error. Hacked special
timing for the game for now.
Added triple-buffering to Windows port - enabling double-buffering
actually enables triple-buffering if you have enough free video RAM,
defaulting to double-buffering if you don't.
Fixed another crash bug in the interpolated mode 7 code - if no
scaling was being used (either up or down) and screen repeat was
enabled and the screen was flipped horizontally, the routine would
crash Snes9x. Was causing Snes9x to crash during rock monster
boss stage of Castlevania 4.
Oops. Got the initialisation of the default SNES screen width and
height round the wrong way - could cause a X Windows System
error message on the UNIX port after loading a ZSNES freeze file.
Included the unofficial Windows port emulation fixes for several
games including Kentouou World championship and TKO Super
Championship.
Included ??? improved Anti Res. sound sample decoding routine and
updated the C version to match.
Included Anti Res. improved sample decompression code he sent
me ages ago, but for some reason I didn't include. Sorry. This
version seems good enough to leave enabled all the time.

v.1.12
Sound really fixed
v.1.11
That bad, naughty, evil, and overall not very nice sound issue should be fixed now :))
(Jesus, why did GetCurrentPosition have to report bytes instead of samples ?)
Modified autoframeskip code to adapt to new timing system. Should be better too, now.
Added a system to autodetect for each frame wether sprite masking is needed or not.
Since it is not, most of the time, this speeds up things nicely in many games :)
Fixed Street Fighter Zero - CPS Changer (Japan 951020) backgrounds (broken in 1.10)
Macros for Player 2, Player 3 and Player 4. Have a look at updated Defaultkeys.ini
New blitter: Zoom 2x software. In other words, 200% without blur effect.
If you like "correct ratio" and not blur, I'd suggest you give a try to this
blitter + stretch + eventually fullscreen.
Keep in mind that this blitter is however significantly slower than Normal, Alternate
scanlines or even regular scanlines.
Fixed XMen Versus Street Fighters hanging when beginning fight against Apocalypse
Faster loading for Capcom Sports Club
Correct the CRCs for Capcom Sports Club XORs (didn't cause bugs, just reported XORs to
be bad in audit)
New function to redraw the current frame without the on screen messages. Handy if you
want to make a screenshot.
Added a few background colors in the menu
Added Zoom window 100%/200%/300% in the menu
Made the Reset key redefinable, since everyone seems to hate F10 :)

09:43EST - PocketGB v.1.36 for Win CE ARM, MIPS, & SH3 Released
PocketGB v.1.36 for Win CE ARM, MIPS, & SH3, a Multi-Platform emulator has been released. This release includes the following features, enhancements, and bugfixes:
NES: The FCE module has been dropped and will no longer be supported. You must uninstall any prior versions of PocketGB or delete
it from your device before installing 1.36, otherwise you're likely to see some very strange behavior as the two NES modules compete
with each other. I am going back to Marat's iNES core and hope to begin filling in the missing mappers. Not having to support the
old FCE module will make that easier for me. The downside is, I can no longer give away the NES module with the GB registration.
Marat owns the iNES core and will not let me use it without charging for it. I haven't decided what to do about this yet or what I will
charge since Marat is the one who gets the final say.
Demo Time Limit: The demo time limits have been extended to five minutes.
Casio Virtual Pad: The virtual pad disappears on some Casio devices. I tried to fix this, but if it's still doing it, contact me via
e-mail with an MSN or ICQ ID and I will get in touch with you to track this down.
Save Game State: The save game state was getting corrupted on some devices and with some games. This seemed to have been a
timing issue though I was never able to reproduce it myself. Let me know how this one goes.
Waveout error: Some devices periodically produced a waveout error. This may have been related to the timing issue, but again, I
couldn't reproduce it. Please test and see if it has gone away.
Minor Fixes: Several minor changes were made to the code to improve stability and possibly performance. Testing was only
performed on the iPAQ this time around.

22:16EST - ElectrEm Beta 9 for DOS, Win 9X, Linux Released
ElectrEm Beta 9 for DOS, Win 9X, Linux, an Acorn Electron emulator has been released. This release includes the following features, enhancements, and bugfixes:
I have cleared some issues regarding distribution of the Acorn ROMs with the emulator, and as such have now included them. However, I'm not really sure
what to do about the Pres E00-ADFS ones, which would be really useful also.
a rewrite of the sound and tape i/o code brings some changes and new features. Namely :
tape loading using genuine tapes from the soundcard or a sound file (Microsoft wave [.wav], Apple AIFF [.aif or .aiff], SUN AU [.au] & raw sound
formats supported). But be warned : at this time, the soundcard option is near untested and highly experimental. And the same goes for soundcard tape
output, which has suffered something of a rewrite.
saving to tape UEF files and the piping of input to output is now possible, so ElectrEm can be used to generate UEF files from Electron tapes with none
of the over-zealous validation checks of MakeUEF. A seperate utility, CleanUEF is now available to reduce approximately ROM format tapes to a
canonical form.
the previous 'real time' sound capability is dead, replaced by 'low fidelity sound emulation' which produces about the same quality of sound (actually a
little better in Windows), but is fully target portable
byte by byte sequential file access is now accelerated by the fast tape mechanism, speeding up the loading of games such as Zalaga (full price release)
& Ian Botham's Cricket
Native support is now implemented for files created by one of the Slogger T2P3 or T2Peg ROMs. They are, and will remain for the forseeable future, read
only. Support will come for WH Scholten's .tape format, and possibly the !6502Em tape format in the future.
fixes/changes to autload capabilities :
fixed state snapshot loading when 'collude with AutoLoad ROM' is enabled
fix to preload ("load =" config file option) handling such that it now co-operates with autoload and is more path tolerant
the autoload facility will now jiggle all ROMs except the Plus 1 as it sees appropriate, allowing for media type and so on
it is now possible in all operating systems to pass a file as a program argument and have it loaded along with any preload files, meaning that (OS or
Window Manager allowing - works a treat in MS-Windows) you can associate ElectrEm with the relevant file extensions, find some game and just
double click to play
it is worth noting that it is also now possible to add ROM inclusion/exclusion hints to UEF files, in order to help emulators out e.g. with whether to enable the
Plus 1 ROM which some games require for joystick support but others don't function with at all
as a quick fix for Karate Combat and others, the emulator will now (fast) LOAD"" locked files (both of those programs mess with the temporary memory
store of the locked flag before the OS looks at it properly), but if possible I don't intend to make that a permanent feature
started an SDL target, intended initially only as a potential replacement for GGI if that project really is dead forever. SDL does not offer sound input though,
and has some odd keyboard behaviour (particularly on the caps and num lock keys). A compiled version will be available once the latter issue has been
resolved.
optimised the CPU cores a little (specifically I optimised accessing of the P register, avoiding a few conditional statements and cut some tables for cache
reasons), and fixed the timing of some operations on the multiplexing core. Also a big source cleanup makes it much easier to maintain the two in parallel.
made an attempt at optimising the video circuit emulation, which may or may not have helped
a rethink of the frame skip mechanism results in improvements in that area
added the facility to generate entirely empty and new (pre-formatted since the disc controller chip isn't emulated well enough to handle any other way!) DFS
or ADFS diskettes, in any of the supported file types, and UEF tape files
bug fix means that you no longer lose data when writing to UEF files on different filing systems than the executable/binary
fixed a palette related issue which was causing some programs (such as certain calls to the OS ROM) to erroneously generate the free palette changes of Joe
Blade et al
fixed a potential crash bug for people without a joystick configured as the 'First Byte' joystick, and another when accessing UEF-Tape's from read only media
upgraded the emulated Electron to a two disc drive machine
made simple optimisation targetting the vast majority of titles which use only a section of the display area
bug fixes to the GUI means it is no longer possible to 'jam' a file in the load menu (when every time you re-enter the menu system that file instantly selects itself
and the menu system exits)
Follow the link for ElectrEm in the Computer Emulation section.
22:11EST - xtrs v.4.6 for Linux Released
xtrs v.4.6 for Linux, a Radio Shack TRS-80 Model I/III/4/4P emulator has been released. This release includes the following features, enhancements, and bugfixes:
The value of -diskdir can now begin with "~/" (or just be "~") to
make it relative to the user's home directory. Suggested by Jean-Marc
Le Peuvedic.
Fixed the heuristic that decides whether the TRS-80 is loading or
saving to tape to work with the 500bps loader that came on a 250bps
cassette with the tape Editor/Assembler. This code does an OUT to the
cassette port first thing after turning on the motor, which was
confusing us. Now if the TRS-80 does an IN from the cassette port
with the motor on, we switch to reading even if we initially saw an
OUT and guessed it was writing.
Added feature: sending SIGUSR1 to xtrs causes a disk change (as if
F7 were pressed). This is for use by external disk-manipulating
programs. Suggested by Jean-Marc Le Peuvedic.
Changed to a new keystretch algorithm that stretches for a fixed
number of T-states instead of a fixed number of keyboard matrix reads.
This should hopefully eliminate the need to tweak the keystretch
setting to different values for games. Inspired by suggestions from
Jean-Marc Le Peuvedic. To make this work, also had to change the
KBWAIT algorithm to wait only after the ROM wait-for-key routine has
been called several times with no keyboard state change.
I noticed that the X server on my development machine is now
reporting Shift+F1 as F13 instead of F11, so I changed the table in
trs_keyboard.c to match, but I left an #if setting that can
accommodate the old behavior. It looks like newer versions of XFree86
don't do either translation, thankfully.

22:02EST - FCE Ultra v.0.61R2 for Win 9X & Linux Released
FCE Ultra v.0.61R2 for Win 9X & Linux, a Nintendo NES emulator has been released. This release includes the following features, enhancements, and bugfixes:
Speed optimizations in sprite rendering code.
Screen snapshots are now saved in the PNG format instead of the PCX
format.
Fixed Game Genie emulation(it wasn't working in the last release).
Also added support for Game Genie emulation to the UNIF code.
Fixed a problem(if FCE Ultra was configured to connect to a remote
host and the remote host was given as an IP address, and the IP
address couldn't be reverse resolved, which is commonly the case
on home LANs, the connection attempt would fail) in the network
play code. I had misinterpreted the Winsock API documentation
when I wrote the code.

23:16EST - Atari800Win Plus v.2.8 for Win 9X Released
Atari800Win Plus v.2.8 for Win 9X, an Atari 800 emulator has been released. This release includes the following features, enhancements, and bugfixes:
Added:
1) The Setup Wizard is used to perform installation of the emulator in the Windows environment (see the Help/Setup Wizard (Alt+W) menu option).
2) The Input menu has been added. It provides a comfortable way for accessing all the emulators input configuration options.
3) There is the ability to save video stream to an AVI file (only for GDI display modes and without the sound at the moment, see the View/Save video menu option).
4) Some state indicators displayed on the status bar have been introduced. The indicators show and allow to change (via mouse double-clicks) some emulation parameters. There is of course the possibility to turn them off by using the View/Show/State indicators (Alt+I) menu option.
5) The stretched graphics modes can be built using interpolation algorithm that gives smooth graphics like on an old TV set (vide the View/Stretching/Smooth option). Unfortunately, the interpolation routines are rather slow at the moment.
6) New full-screen mode (320x400 DirectDraw) has been added. This mode allows achieving a pretty fast emulation with scan lines or interpolation (though vertical only) turned on.
7) The emulator can now work in the background (it means without the focus, see the Misc/Task control/Stop when inactive menu option). There is also the possibility to run it at higher priority level (Misc/Task control/Run at high priority). The user may find these features useful especially for listening to the music played by the emulator run in the background.
8) The possibility to press simultaneously two keys that are used for emulating the opposite joysticks directions is blocked by default now, but may be turned on (see the Allow to use opposite direction keys option in the Joystick Options dialog box).
9) The standard system colors may be optionally used for GUI in full-screen modes (see the Use system colors option in the Graphics Options dialog box). Unfortunately, it is reliable only for the standard Windows color scheme.
10) The Performance Options dialog box has been added. It groups all the kernel-side options that the speed of the emulator depends on (see the Atari/Performance menu option).
11) There is a new conversion type available (from .XFD to .ATR files, see the Misc/Convert/XFD to ATR menu option). Thanks to Piotr Fusik for sending me the conversion routines.
12) The Arabic OS image is automatically recognized by the emulator.
13) The emulator may ask the user for confirming the quit action (see the Misc/Task control/Confirm on exit menu option).
14) Some new icons have been included (Atari XE and new ones for associating Atari images).
15) The emulator help file has been revised and large parts of it have been rewritten by Piotr Fusik.
Changed:
1) Some drawing routines written in assembly language have been improved by Piotr Fusik. With new compilation scheme, which has been used for this release of the emulator, it should give about 10-15% boost in performance. There is also the possibility to use MMX and/or Pentium Pro core optimised routines (see the Advanced Graphics Options dialog box).
2) The Palette Options dialog box has been reconstructed. All the palette options are now grouped in one window.
3) The Joystick Options dialog box has been modified. Assigning devices to Ataris stick ports should be much easier now.
4) The Keyboard Options dialog box is now invoked via the Input/Keyboard (Alt+K) menu option instead of the Keyboard Template window. The second one is still available but can be opened only by the Edit button in the Keyboard Options.
5) Printing the Atari screen contents has been improved (thanks to Piotr, again).
6) The emulator recognises now maximum 32 joystick buttons instead of 4.
7) The Extra Options window has been removed.
8) The Graphics menu has been renamed to View.
Fixed:
1) The Atari screen contents is properly redrawn when the user moves the main emulator window around and parts of the window are not visible on the screen. Also the Atari screen repairing in full-screen modes has been finally implemented. The user can move dialog windows around without destroying the screen contents.
2) A key assigned in a keyset to center Atari stick should work properly when the Recenter keyboard stick when key is released option is unchecked.
3) The mouse double-clicks are captured by the emulator when a mouse is emulated.
4) A lot of serious problems under Windows 2000 have been fixed. The emulator should not crash anymore after loading executable, changing video system etc. Popup menus are properly erased, Ctrl+Esc keystrokes are captured and much, much more.
5) Some annoying errors during initialising the registry under Windows NT have been removed.
6) The speed indicator on the status bar is finally independent from the users actions performed via GUI.
7) Changing the emulator display modes has been slightly improved.
8) Some errors in the multimedia sound initialization have been removed. Moreover, changing the sound options when sound is played should not cause the problems with its quality anymore.
9) A bug in the small file selector causing some problems with displaying contents of desktop folder has been fixed.
10) A lot of other errors.
CAUTION: This version may still have some flaws under Windows 2000 and Windows Me.

16:05EST - DGen/SSL v.1.23 for BeOS Released
DGen/SSL v.1.23 for BeOS, a Sega Genesis emulator has been released. This release includes the following features, enhancements, and bugfixes:
Added fullscreen toggle, using Alt-Enter by default.
Added the ability to set modifiers on key bindings, using the prefixes
"shift-", "ctrl-", "alt-", and "meta-".
When 'z' is pressed to stop emulation while running fullscreen, the screen
is toggled into windowed mode until emulation resumes. (assuming SDL
supports this on your platform)
Fixed some buffer overflows in the rc parser.

format on non-ELF platforms.

15:52EST - Kawaks v.1.09 for Win 9X Released
Kawaks v.1.09 for Win 9X, a Multi-Arcade emulator has been released. This release includes the following features, enhancements, and bugfixes:
1.08 was a lot slower than previous releases due to the new VRAM lag code.
I have now optimised that code, and also optimised various other things, so
hopefully, 1.09 should be as fast as older Kawaks.
Still, since VRAM can still be a slowdown factor, I have included an option
to disable it. (enabling VRAM lag only fixes a few minor gfx glitches, so
you slower PC uses may want to let it disabled. Try and see for yourself)
Optimised 2xSai, Super2xSai, SuperEagle blitters.
Added a scanlined 2xSai blitter (much faster than 2xSai, slower than scanlines)
2xSai, SuperEable and Super2xSai should work on S3/S4 cards, and some other
exotic ones, now (I'd like feedback on that...)
Added a DisableJoystick option, since joystick management is a performance hit.
Fixed "Show if available" crash
Fixes in the menu code (better "ticks" management)
Support for a default generic key setting :
Put your usual key definitions in a file named defaultkeys.ini, which
should be located in the same directory as WinKawaks.exe (not the INI directory)
A defaultkeys.ini is included in this zip, just modify it to suit your needs.
(You can use the INI of one of your configured games to help you.)
Note that a game's ini has the priority to defaultkeys.ini.
You may want to edit your defaultkeys.ini and delete all of your game's inis
to make sure they all use the new settings on they next launch.
Alt+A toggles Autoframeskip. Also shows a message on screen, now.
Follow the link for Kawaks in the Multi-Arcade Emulation section.

Sound is no longer messed up when a JAM/KIL opcode is emulated.
Fixed an overflow bug that occured when $4014 was written to
during certain(rare) conditions.
Fixed a few save state bugs.
Fixed a MMC1 CHR bank switching bug.
Added emulation of the MMC5's WRAM write-enable/disable registers.
Fixed a sound frame IRQ emulation bug. "Qix" works now.
Added UNIF support. Some of the board emulation is still a bit
buggy, though. Look at the documentation for a list of supported
boards.
Updated the "Palette Notes" section of the documentation. Also
fixed a few other problems with the documentation.
Added support for loading files in the PKZIP and gzip
compressed file formats via zlib.
Added the ability to configure the first scanline and the last
scanline to draw to the screen. Enabling PAL emulation no longer
will cause all 239 scanlines to be displayed, though an option
to override these settings for when PAL emulation is enabled may
be in the next version.

23:27EST - Kawaks v.1.08 for Win 9X Released
Kawaks v.1.08 for Win 9X, a Multi-Arcade emulator has been released. This release includes the following features, enhancements, and bugfixes:
Added option to display only romsets that are available in the load game
dialog box.
Fixed Alien vs. Predator (Euro 940520) driver (sound bugs)
Fixed CPS1 sprite issues (Punisher bus wheels, Andor disappearing when he
jumps, etc)
Fixed YM2152 (CPS1 music) tempo, but that causes new bugs: some sound codes
mysteriously vanish now. That means sometimes, no music will play, or some
sfx won't be played.
Much improved Z80/68000 synchronisation, which allows the following :
Fixed QSound tempo. Faster music, music synced to intro in VSav, etc etc
Overclocked CPS2 games to 12.8MHz (instead of theorical 11.8MHz)
This fixes many glitches. It's likely the 11.8MHz errors are due to timing
errors in the 68000 core I use...
Now lagging not only palette but entire VRAM. Fixes some layer/palette errors.
Various CPS1 fixes:
Mercs 'dirt on the sprites' should be fixed.
Carrier Air Wing won't freeze anymore (game still buggy however, weird
palette issues)
The King of Dragons's in game backgrounds show. Fully playable now.
1941 won't freeze anymore when game starts.
Added a setting in the INI to control sound emulation frequency (44100 default)
New option in the INI to control the sound playback. If sound is bad on your system
try playing with the SoundSegs and SoundSegLag settings. (6 and 5 are the default).
For example, some older versions of Kawaks used 4 and 2. You may want to use them.
(Note that SoundSegLag should be superior to 0 and inferior to SoundSegs)
Now compiled with Turbo68K Version 0.5 (The Cpu Core Formerly Known As Genital68K)
Redid the Kawaks splash screen code. Should display things correctly for vertical games
and it looks better in fullscreen.
New Alternate scanlines blitter. If you have a slower PC and are using scanlines,
I recommend using those, since they should be quite faster.
New image enhancement blitters : 2xSai, Super2xSai, Eagle. They are quite slow for now
because those versions are pure C, without MMX optimisations.
If you have a S3 or S4 card, I'd like to know if those blitters work for you...
Changed the way the video blitters are handled (many internal changes to allow the
future blitters). Now a unique Engine setting in the INI :
0 = Normal (default)
1 = Scanlines
2 = Scanlines 50%
3 = Alternate scanlines
4 = 2xSai
5 = Super2xSai
6 = SuperEagle
Modified the menu to reflect the changes.
In terms of speed, from fastest to slowest, the blitters are 0 3 1 2 6 4 5
Added an extra set of resolutions in the INI to differenciate fullscreen resolution for
normal blitter which needs a lower res from enhanced blitters (which need a twice bigger
resolution) :
* HorizontalFullScreenWidth Resolution for horizontal games with
+ HorizontalFullScreenHeight non Normal blitter (scanlines, 2xSai, etc)
* VerticalFullScreenWidth Resolution for vertical games with
+ VerticalFullScreenHeight non Normal blitter (scanlines, 2xSai, etc)
* HorizontalFullScreenWidthNormal Resolution for horizontal games with
+ HorizontalFullScreenHeightNormal Normal blitter
* VerticalFullScreenWidthNormal Resolution for vertical games with
+ VerticalFullScreenHeightNormal Normal blitter
